I've been lately bothered by people staring at the bulletin boards everywhere, and everyone is reading something. Soon I knew and learned that the local government unit of General Santos City with the help of the GSC Culture and the Arts Council and City Economic and Development Office is presenting Cinemalaya Film Festival at Cinemalaya Sa Malayang Gensan for the first time, where independent film makers could participate.
The university (Notre Dame of Dadiangas Univesity), apparently my school, is one of the partners in establishing this event , together with the other schools in Gensan, particularly, Ramon Magsaysay College, and Holy Trinity.
Cinemalaya Festival is a project of Cultural Center of the Philippines which organized and initiated 4 years ago in Manila which is mainly on Indie (Independent) filmmakers who could not penetrate and establish themselves on the mainstream film and movie industry due to financial matters, and lack of supports and connections.
The festival tackles about the Philippines' common issues of this generation. This also features poverty and the Filipino society, which is rarely presented on the mainstream films.
Having its 2nd year to promote indie films, the event gives greater opportunities to filmmakers who are inspired to do films through the help of audience which actively participate and give responses to what the films convey. Fortunately, Gensan has been chosen as one of the beneficiaries of the tour.
To see the list of the featured Indie Films which will be shown on November 13-14. in Notre Dame of Dadiangas Univesity, Ramon Magsaysay College, and Holy Trinity click HERE.
